The expedition begins in Kampala with an early morning departure toward western Uganda. The journey takes you through Uganda's changing landscapes, from the central region toward Fort Portal and the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Along the way, there is an opportunity to stop for lunch and short breaks before continuing toward Kasese. As you approach the Rwenzori region, the landscape changes dramatically, with views toward the legendary "Mountains of the Moon" becoming possible on clear days.

Arrive in Kasese in the afternoon, check into your accommodation and have an expedition briefing. Your guide will review the trekking route, equipment, weather, altitude considerations and preparations for the following morning.

After breakfast, drive from Kasese to Nyakalengija, where you meet the mountain crew and complete registration and final preparations. This is the official beginning of your Rwenzori Central Circuit expedition.

The trail begins through farmland before entering the forested slopes of Rwenzori Mountains National Park. The route follows the Mubuku River and gradually becomes steeper as you move deeper into the mountain environment. Forest wildlife such as blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys and the Rwenzori turaco may be encountered.

The final section climbs toward Nyabitaba Hut. After reaching camp, settle into your accommodation, enjoy dinner and receive a briefing about the following day's longer trek.

After breakfast, the expedition continues deeper into the Rwenzori ecosystem. The trail descends through forest toward the Kurt Shafer Bridge, where the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers meet.

The landscape gradually changes as the forest gives way to bamboo and then the giant-heather and alpine vegetation characteristic of the higher Rwenzori. The trail becomes increasingly rugged, with slippery rocks and wet sections requiring careful movement.

Continue toward Nyamileju Rock Shelter, where weather permitting you may get views toward Mount Stanley and Mount Speke. From here the route continues toward John Matte Hut, where the team settles for the night.

Today's trek is shorter but remains physically demanding because of the increasing altitude. After breakfast, cross the Bujuku River and enter the Bigo Bog.

The trail crosses the bog through a series of challenging sections before reaching firmer ground. Giant lobelias, groundsels and other high-altitude vegetation become increasingly prominent.

Continue toward Lake Bujuku, surrounded by the dramatic peaks of Mount Baker and Mount Stanley. Bujuku Hut sits in the valley below Stuhlmann Pass and provides an important acclimatization point before the climb toward Elena Hut.

The afternoon should be used for rest, hydration and preparation, rather than unnecessary activity.

Today marks the beginning of the high-altitude section of the expedition. The trail climbs through the Groundsel Gully and increasingly rocky terrain as you approach Elena Hut.

The vegetation becomes sparse and the environment noticeably colder. Every member of the expedition should maintain a steady pace and follow the guide's instructions regarding hydration, rest and altitude management.

Upon reaching Elena Hut, the team prepares for the following day's summit attempt. Equipment is checked, clothing layers prepared and the summit briefing conducted.

The team begins very early, allowing sufficient time for the summit attempt and descent. The climb involves exposed and technically demanding terrain, including glacier sections, rock and ice. Current route descriptions note that the summit section requires appropriate mountaineering equipment and experienced guidance.

After reaching Margherita Peak at 5,109 metres, the highest point of the Rwenzori range, the team begins the descent back toward Elena Hut before continuing toward Scott-Elliot Pass and Kitandara.

Arrive at Kitandara Hut for dinner and much-needed rest.

After breakfast, the route climbs toward Fresh Field Pass. At approximately 4,282 metres, the pass provides spectacular views across the high-altitude landscape and, weather permitting, toward the Democratic Republic of Congo.

From the pass, the route begins its long descent through increasingly lower vegetation zones.

Continue toward Bujongolo Rock Shelter, historically associated with the Duke of Abruzzi's 1906 expedition, before eventually reaching Guy Yeoman Hut.

The final mountain day begins with a descent through the lower sections of the mountain.

The trail passes through increasingly dense vegetation before eventually reaching Nyabitaba and continuing toward Nyakalengija. This completes the Central Circuit.

After completing the trek, meet your vehicle and transfer back to Kasese.

This evening is deliberately kept relaxed. After seven demanding days on the mountain, the priority is a proper shower, comfortable bed, good food and recovery.

After breakfast, begin the journey back toward Kampala.

Depending on the client's onward travel plans, we can either transfer directly to Kampala/Entebbe or arrange an additional overnight stay.

For international clients, I actually recommend not scheduling a return flight immediately after the expedition. A recovery night in Kampala or Entebbe provides a much better margin against delays and fatigue
