Uganda
- Foreign Non-Residents ($700): This rate applies to travelers who are not citizens of Uganda or other East African countries. The permit grants access to one trek, allowing one hour of observation time with a habituated gorilla family.
- Foreign Residents ($600): This category is for individuals who hold long-term residency in Uganda or other East African countries but are not citizens. The reduced rate acknowledges the ongoing commitment to living in the region while still contributing to conservation efforts.
- East African Citizens (300,000 UGX): This significantly lower rate for East African citizens (from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi) is set to encourage regional tourism and make the experience more accessible. The permit allows East African locals to partake in the gorilla trekking experience at a lower cost while still supporting conservation initiatives in the area.
Rwanda
- Foreign Non-Residents ($1,500): This rate applies to all travelers who are not citizens or residents of Rwanda. The permit price reflects Rwanda’s focus on providing a premium and high-quality trekking experience, which includes well-maintained trails and professional guiding services. The fee allows for one trek and grants the opportunity to spend one hour with a habituated gorilla family once they are located.
